raumlaborberlin realisiert auf dem Klarissenplatz den “Temple Of No Shopping”. Die Arbeit entsteht im Auftrag des Neuen Museums im Rahmen der Ausstellung WEtransFORM, Kunst und Design zu den Grenzen des Wachstums, die sich vom 18. März bis 19. Juni 2016 Fragen der Ressourcenverschwendung und -knappheit widmet.

Der Tempel wird zentraler Austragungsort des Festivals zu WEtransFORM sein, das vom 1. – 5. Juni stattfindet und ein vielfältiges Programm mit Vorträgen, Panels, Workshops, Lesungen und weiteren Aktionen bietet.
Aus Spannringfässern konstruiert, reflektiert die Arbeit die für unsere Marktwirtschaft typische Umwälzung von Waren. Wir nehmen diese Bewegung von Rohstoffen, wie auch von Nahrungsmitteln, über lange Transportwege zwischen den Kontinenten unserer globalisierten Welt täglich in Kauf.
Das Spannringfass ist Sinnbild für den Logistikapparat, der sich zwischen Produktion und Konsum von Nahrungsmitteln befindet und welcher deren Grundsätze an beiden Enden der Kette immer stärker mitgestaltet. Der Temple of no shopping möchte den Eindruck dieser Massen visualisieren, die Dimension dieser Bewegung von Waren an einem Ort für einige Monate einfrieren.
Aus einem gefundenen alltäglichen Gegenstand wird ein Baustein für die Errichtung eines temporären Gebäudes, der einen Ort des Verweilens, Redens und Zusammentreffens schafft.

„Temple of no Shoping“ is an installation from raumlabor berlin at the Klarissenplatz. The work was commissioned by Neues Museum Nürnberg in the context of the exhibition WEtransFORM – Art and Design on the Limits to Growth- from 18th of March to 19th of June 2016, which is dedicated to the scarcity and waste of resources.

The temple will be a central space of the festival WEtransFORM which takes place from the 1st to the 5th of June and offers a varied program of lectures, panels, workshops, readings and other actions. Constructed from clamp ring barrels, the work reflects the circulation of commodities typical for our market economy. We daily condone this moving of raw materials and comestible goods across long transport routes between the continents of our globalized world.
The clamp ring barrel is a symbol of the logistic apparatus located between the production and consumption of food, the principles of which it increasingly affects – at both ends of the chain. The Temple of No Shopping visualizes the impression of these masses, it freezes the scale of the movement of goods in one place for a few months. An ordinary, found object becomes a building brick for the construction of a temporary structure, which creates a place to linger, talk and come together.
