Künstlerhaus Mousonturm im Bau
How can we enjoy the dramatic arts in the pandemic age? How can we go to the theatre without the fear of infection, without feeling lonely in the audience wearing masks and surrounded by antiseptic surfaces? How can we save the arts from being reduced by health care restrictions?
For the Theatre Künstlerhaus Mousonturm raumlabor developed a new, pandemic-conform space made of clay. The new theatre has 20 family-balconies for the audience and a 360 ° stage for the artists.

Wie kann der Theaterbesuch Freude bringen in diesen Pandemiezeiten? Wie den Theaterbesuch genießen, ohne Angst vor Infektion, ohne ein Geühl von isolation, allein im Auditorium, mit Maske und umgeben von antiseptischen Oberflächen? Statt an den sich ständig wandelnden Covid-19-Hygiene-auflagen für öffentliche Veranstaltungen zu verzweifeln, wird der Theatersaal radikal transformiert.
„Basierend auf einer Idee der Bühnenbildnerin Barbara Ehnes füllt raumlaborberlin den Mousonturm-Saal mit einem außergewöhnlichen Theaterrundbau. Er wird Spielstätte und Begegnungsort für Künstler:innen und Zuschauer:innen in den kommenden sechs Monaten sein und dem aktuell herrschenden Primat der physischen Distanz und der cleanen glatten Oberflächen Intimität und materielle Wärme entgegensetzen, ohne die notwendigen Regeln zu ignorieren. Zuschauer:innen sind eingeladen, in Logen Platz zu nehmen, von denen aus sie an den von Künstler:innen und Kollektiven für diesen Raum entwickelten oder adaptierten Performances teilnehmen können. Mit dieser Architektur möchte das Künstlerhaus Mousonturm nicht nur eine besondere Theatererfahrung in außergewöhnlichen Zeiten schaffen, sondern dazu anregen, über die Konventionen von Theaterräumen und vermeintlich neutrale Raumdispositive wie die Blackbox nachzudenken.“ Zitat vom Mousonturm
„Instead of despairing over the constantly changing Covid-19 hygiene requirements for public events, the team at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm is fulfilling a long-cherished dream: to radically transform the Mousonturm’s Main Theatre Hall. Based on an idea by the stage designer Barbara Ehnes, the raumlaborberlin collective for performative architecture is building an extraordinary theatrical rotunda into Mousonturm. Over the next six months, it will serve as a venue and meeting place for artists and spectators to counteract the currently prevailing primacy of physical distancing and clean, smooth surfaces with intimacy and material warmth, without ignoring the necessary regulations. Visitors are invited to sit in booths from where they can take part in the performances developed or adapted by artists and collectives for this space. With the help of this architecture, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm not only wants to create a special theatre experience in extraordinary times, but also to encourage people to think about the conventions of theatre spaces and supposedly neutral spatial dispositives such as the black box.“
