CTM Festival 2019 / PERSISTENCE
Exhibition Title: PERSISTING REALITIES
Celebrating CTM’s 20th anniversary edition with “Persisting Realities” exhibition, Raumlabor faced the challenge of generating an exhibition design that not only fosters the individual but also the collective. It was necessary to generate a framework that recognizes diversity serving as testing ground for collective speculation and individual efforts to co-exist.
Kunstraum Kreuzberg acquires a new skin for CTM 2019 that relies at first glance on a color frame work that characterizes each space with co-existing ideas. One can find the evidences of these ideas in the painted walls bearing a generated complementary color scheme that relates within itself and the surrounding exhibition and transit spaces. This is reinforced by implementing this color scheme to the light design to add an almost imperceptible value to each space.
The visitor enters towards a sequence of rooms that enables an open-end walk that speculates with changes in atmospheres. On one side of the exhibition space the displayed art pieces play with the very visible complementary color scheme. On the other side we merge into a different version with dimmed light rooms of sound and moving images. The visitors feel this transition through a corridor who’s walls reflect the light that indicates them the way. The flickering light is intensified by a light absorbing black floor and ceiling.
